What causes slip and fall?

Slip and Fall

Various factors can cause slip and fall incidents, often related to unsafe

environmental conditions. Here are some common causes...

1. Wet or Slippery Surfaces:

  • Spills: Liquids or oils on the floor that aren’t promptly cleaned up.

Recently Waxed or Polished Floors: Floors that have been waxed or polished

may be slippery.

2. Uneven Surfaces:

  • Cracked or Broken Pavement: Uneven sidewalks, driveways, or parking lots.

Loose or Damaged Flooring: Loose tiles, torn carpets, or broken floorboards.

Transitions Between Surfaces: Changes in floor height or texture, such as

moving from carpet to tile.

3. Footwear:

  • Inappropriate Shoes: Shoes with smooth soles or high heels can contribute to

slips, especially on slick surfaces.

  • Worn-Out Shoes: Footwear with worn treads that no longer provide adequate

grip.

4. Weather Conditions:

  • Ice and Snow: Frozen surfaces are particularly dangerous.

5. Environmental Conditions:

  • Poorly Maintained Public Areas: Sidewalks, roads, or parks that are not

properly maintained can pose a risk.

  • Slippery Mats or Rugs: Improperly secured or overly worn mats and rugs can

cause tripping or slipping.

These factors can often be mitigated through proper maintenance, safety

measures, and awareness, reducing the risk of slip and fall accidents.
